Abstract Policies & Guidelines

Abstract Submission Policies and Guidelines

How many abstracts can I submit?

A maximum of two abstracts may be submitted per presenting author. The presenting author is the individual who submits the abstract and will deliver the poster or oral presentation, as selected by the Program Committee.

Do all authors need to approve an abstract before it is submitted?

Yes. By submitting an abstract, the submitting author confirms that all listed authors are aware of the submission and have approved both their inclusion as authors and the content of the abstract.

Can I submit an abstract that was been published previously?

The abstract must be based on results that have not been published and will not be published in any journal prior to January 29, 2027. The abstract has also not been presented, and will not be presented, at any national or international scientific conference before that date.

When will I find out if my abstract submission was accepted?

Submitters will be notified of their abstract disposition via email on September 16, 2026.

Are virtual presentation options available for accepted abstracts?

No. By submitting an abstract, the presenting author agrees to participate in the meeting in person if the abstract is selected for presentation. Virtual presentation options will not be available.

Can I request an extension to an abstract submission deadline?

No. All submission deadlines are final, and no extensions will be granted beyond the posted deadlines.

What happens if an accepted abstract is withdrawn or not presented?

If an accepted abstract is withdrawn after October 28, 2026, if no author presents the abstract at the meeting, or if a change in the presenting author is not communicated to ASM and IDSA in advance, the presenting author may be prohibited from presenting at ASM- or IDSA-sponsored meetings for up to three years.

What happens to the copyright of my abstract if it is accepted?

Upon acceptance, ASM and IDSA retain the rights to include the abstract in any print or electronic compilation of conference abstracts, in accordance with ASM and IDSA copyright policies.

What are the rules around AI utilization?

Authors are required to disclose any use of AI tools (e.g., for language editing, data analysis, or content generation). All submitted work must be original. The use of AI-generated content is prohibited unless it reviewed and verified by the authors for accuracy and appropriateness. Content that lacks sufficient human oversight and validation will not be accepted.

What are the requirements for industry-funded research and discussions of off-label product use?

Research funded by a commercial company must be based on accepted scientific principles and methods and may not promote the commercial interests of the funding entity. Presentations must remain free of promotional content, including content derived from speaker bureau activities or other industry-sponsored training. If a presentation includes discussion of off-label or investigational uses of a product, the presenting author must clearly disclose that the use or indication is not currently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
